Stepehen King and Kathy Bates

October 23, 2011 Leave a comment

Good Evening folks,

I trust everyone had a busy weekend. I know I did. Essays, essays, oh my!

I just wanted to post a list of the Stephen King Movies that Kathy Bates was in. Just because I found it interesting how much she is involved in Stephen King projects.

1990 – Misery – She played Annie
1994 – The Stand – Rae Flowers
1995 – Dolores Claiborne – Dolores Claiborne

Yes it is only 3 movies. Well 2 movies and a mini series, but all within such a short time span. I just found it to be an interesting thing to note.

Also on a side note, I am just posting news about the fire at Oil Refinery that happened over the weekend.

Zombies… Zombies… Funny Picture

October 17, 2011 Leave a comment

Good Afternoon Folks,

I just wanted to make a quick post in regards to the Zombie Walk from last weekend. I was searching through the endless pages of the internet and found a few images that may interest the class. Some of the photos are edited pictures from the zombie walk of my undead self, Kyle and a friend not from the university. Sadly I was hoping for a news article on the Zombie Walk to post, but I can not seem to find one. Either way, i want to express how much of a great time it was, and how it helped to raise food for Romero House. One of the organizers mentioned on the facebook page that the Romero House stated that the Zombie Walk has become one of the biggest donations of food they receive. The note then stated “BE PROUD ZOMBIES”. How could someone not enjoy being undead and helping out an amazing cause.

I hope those few images get a laugh, a smile or something.

3rd Annual Zombie walk

October 16, 2011 1 comment

Hello World,

I just wanted to make a quick post about the Zombie Walk that took place last night. It seemed to be a huge success. I enjoyed every moment of it. So many undead walking around. Granted it was very cold.

I am going to post a link to two facebook groups, both about the Zombie Walk. One is the event page from last night, please check out the photos, the other link is for a group for the event next year.

I also must say, it was my first time making corn syrup blood, great fun and looked awesome but it made a sticky mess.

Group Page

The photos posted above were taken last night by me and a few friends. There are a ton more photos on facebook and the Zombie Walk event has the photo albums open to the public. I hope you enjoy them

If anyone else attended link me some photos, please. Let me know if you had a good time.

I am surprised I didn’t see Professor Jones there.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, full of undead fun and homework.

I am Legend – or Am I?

October 13, 2011 Leave a comment

I just wanted to post a few words about today’s class discussion.

I really enjoyed the topic today and the few and various comments other classmates made. I may not agree with everything, but I did get a few did ways to view the book and films, which is always enlightening.

I want to comment on the endings, film and book alike – since that was what class was centered around today.

The book ending was a complete turnaround and carried a guilty tone in it. I felt it was a very interesting way to end a book and to enhance the reading experience. For Neville to understand that he has become “legend” and that infection is normal grasps the reader and allows us (the reader) to view the other side of the “Bogey Man” stories. Neville becomes a story that the infected [now normal society in their eyes, and the eyes of the book/author] tell their children about, a scary campfire tale, or a myth that is quietly whispered among people. It is like when we tell stories of vampires or werewolves, they are just legends and myths, something to scare someone for a little while. Neville has become something only talked about, he is no longer real, he is legend.

I felt that when watching the films in class, that one could see an interesting factor.

In the first film, he dies at the alter of a church, second film he dies outside in a fountain, in the position of the cross and the last film he screams ” I can save you!” before giving the cure to the young women and boy and locking them away from the infected. Allowing the infected to kill him, and saving their lives.

The films have such a different portrayal and message then the book that it is hard to believe they are about the same thing. It is almost like someone read the first half of the book, stopped and wrote the screenplays for the film and went on their way.

By changing the ending of the film, it really takes away from the message and the feeling and contest that the novel had. It makes the message and underlying meaning so different.

The 2007 movie is almost like a film that was made for the scene with the brand new mustang. I mean it should have been covered in dust and rust, but it was brand new! Even in the older film it was a dusty car. For some reason that scene just bugged me so much. Did anyone else notice that?

End of rant – for now.

Also I thought I would post the 2007 trailer from youtube, I find it interesting. It states he is the last human and the last hope and yada yada yada, which is completely different then what the novel conveys.
